About the Role
Delta Airlines is looking for a Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) to join their IT team. The role focuses on managing, optimizing, and supporting mainframe database systems to ensure high performance, reliability, and compliance. This is a long-term consulting role with opportunities to work on transformation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain IBM DB2 databases on z/OS mainframe.
  • Create and manage database objects (tables, indexes, table spaces).
  • Perform data operations (loading, unloading, reorganizing) using DB2 utilities.
  • Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Monitor and tune database performance to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Use tools like RUNSTATS for database statistics and query optimization.
  • Collaborate with application teams to design schema changes and new features.
  • Provide guidance on database technologies and enhancements.
  • Oversee external DBA/system programming teams during installations and upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with audits (SOX) and data security best practices.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Stay updated on new database features and lifecycle changes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years’ experience with z/Db2, IMS DB/DC, and/or ADABAS.
  • Strong expertise in IBM DB2 administration on z/OS mainframe.
  • Experience with replication tools (e.g., IBM IIDR).
  • Knowledge of zConnect Enterprise Edition (zCEE) API framework.
  • Proficiency in SQL, indexing, partitioning, data sharing, and tuning.
  • Hands-on with JCL (Job Control Language) and mainframe OS concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in database security, backups, recovery, and DR planning.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Certifications in DB2 or mainframe database technologies.
  • Familiarity with service level management and vendor coordination.
  • Experience managing software upgrades and conversions.
  • Strong collaboration skills with internal and external teams.
  • Flexibility to provide on-call production support.
